Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and anchor and. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma in English literature. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. The following year, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She was named Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. She was a member of an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. Mitchell travelled along with Ronald Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss topics like and the Iran Contra scandal.
